This course sets out the minimum level of training that Offshore
Safety Representatives elected under SI 1989/971 must receive to
assist them in fulfiling their functions.
Each certificate carries an expiry date, requiring the holder to
undertake 'Further Training' in line with the OPITO standard.
Course contents:
Demonstrate knowledge of relevant legislation and other
government requirements.
Show knowledge of their functions as defined in SI 1989/971.
Demonstrate the role of a Safety Representative.
Acquire the personal skills necessary for the execution of the
Safety Representative's function.
Show knowledge of how the law is made.
Describe the main points of the core legislation.
Give an overview of the requirements of other relevant H & S
legislation and Safety Management Systems.
Explain the principles of personal effectiveness.
Take part in practical exercises.
Identify sources of Health & Safety information.
