This course is a pre-requisite for entry to the Merchant Navy and conforms to the Merchant Navy Training Board (MNTB) standard. The course also forms part of the 5 day STCW95 Combined course.

Course content
Delegates successfully completing the course will have gained experience and knowledge of:
- Appreciation of the hazards involved in fire at sea
- Fire prevention precautions to be taken
- Fire detection and means of raising the alarm
- Initial first aid actions on discovery of a fire
- The duties of members of a fire party and the equipment used
- Exercises and demonstrations of appliances and equipment

Holder should undertake Further Training in line with International Maritime Organisation and Maritime & Coastguard Agency Guidelines.
