This course is a pre-requisite for entry to the Merchant Navy and conforms to the Merchant Navy Training Board (MNTB) standard. The course also forms part of the 5 day STCW95 Combined course.

Course content
Delegates successfully completing the course will have gained knowledge of:
- Familiarisation with Code of Safe Working practices for Merchant Seamen
- Types of emergency which may occur and complying with emergency procedures
- Observing safe working practices
- Understanding orders and being understood in relation to shipboard duties
- Contribute to effective human relationships
- Taking precautions to prevent pollution of the marine environment and the effects of operational or accidental pollution of same
- Basic environmental protection procedures

Holder should undertake Further Training in line with International Maritime Organisation and Maritime & Coastguard Agency Guidelines.
